BELLA BEAR VISITS THE AMAZON RAINFOREST IN PERU

In 2013 Bella Bear was invited to visit the Amazon Rainforest as a special guest of Amazon Rainforest Workshops.

Bella began her first Amazon journey by accompanying Amazon Rainforest Workshops director, Christa Dillabaugh, and students from The Bryn Mawr School, The Garrison Forest School, and the Honey Creek Community School   on their summer expeditions to the Amazon.

With the students, Bella explored the Amazon River, its tributaries, its forests, and its rainforest canopy. She also visited local communities and was able to meet with the indigenous peole that live there including the  Yagua tribe.

The Adventure Begins

Bella then stayed in the Amazon and accompanied Jessica Feld and twenty-seven North American educators on an amazing ten day journey in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest.

This Educator Academy in the Amazon was part of the Amazon Rainforest Workshops and Eco-Teach-

Bella travelled by plane, bus, boat, and foot to explore part of the Amazon Jungle. She learned about the ecology of the Amazon river and its rainforest as well as the Indigenous cultures that live there.

There was a packed itinerary and each day was full of things to learn, experience, and wonder about. The day often started before dawn to go on an early morning boat ride and most nights we did a boat ride to see the Amazon in the dark! Boat was often the easiest and safest way of getting around.

Bella meets the teachers and the rainforest experts

Bella and all the teachers would meet various experts and learn lots of exciting stuff about the rainforest, the wildlife and the people who live in the forest.

The video above will give you a taster of what is to come.  This video is based on a presentation that forms part of the session when visiting schools in the UK.

Lewes Railway Land Nature Reserve is roughly 6300 miles from Lima airport in Peru (or 10160 Kilometers). To get to the Amazon forest Bella travelled by plane, bus, boat.
