There is a honey bee hive in the Linklater Pavillion. The bees can come and go to visit flowers in the reserve but many fly several miles away in search of pollen and nectar.

Bird feeders outside the Pavilion attract birds from the woodland including greater spotted woodpecker, great tits and these blue tits.

There are many birds that live and even nest in the woodland. Bird calls are a great way of communicating to attract a mate or warn a rival.

Although the Lewes Railway Land Nature Reserve is a small piece of land, it is home for many types of animals.

This includes 64 species of birds, 28 species of moth, 9 species of dragonflies, 9 species of mammals, 22 species of butterflies  948 species of bugs and beetles. There are also 365 species of wild plants that help create a home for wildlife.

Some of these animals live here all year round, some visit for a few months while still others are just passing through.

Many species of bumble bee also visit the nature reserve, feeding on nectar and collecting pollen from the many flowering plants

This white lipped banded snail is one of the most attractive of our UK snail species. It feeds on a variety of plants inlcuding nettles, ragwort and hogweed
