WORKING WITH SCHOOLS

Schools can use this project in various ways as Ed the Bear shares his experiences through his first hand adventures.

We have created a series of exciting Adventures that you can book as part of an outreach visit to your school.

Each adventure is based on the travels of Ed the Bear supported by photographs taken during his travels.

Each adventures focuses around a central theme and will include activities. The sessions can be science based, science literacy focused or cross curriculum session.

Session 1: Ed the Bears Adventure to find out why oceans are so special.

Concerned that his precious beach at Shoreham is threatened, Ed the Bear travels to scientists around the world to find out about climate change and how it might damage the rare vegetated shingle habitat at Shoreham.

Ed visits real scientists including the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration in the USA and learns about the ocean. He discovers how oceans moderate our climate and weather, that they produce 50% of the oxygen we breathe, freshwater, food, new medicines, renewable energy, well-being and much more.

On his travels he encounters amazing marine life, visits people who are helping to protect the oceans and learns about how we can all help. Ed shares his amazing adventures, conecting the local and the global. From the Sussex Coast to the Pacific, Atlantic and Antarctic Ocean, follow Ed the Bears adventures as he comes face to face with a great white shark, sits on the Antarctic Ice with penguins, dives on coral reefs and ship wrecks and much more. An exciting adventure that links the local and the global. This session can be adapted to include selected elements of the stories below.

Travelling in his diving bell he marvels at beautiful corals and the amazing wealth of marine life that live on a coral reef. Ed also discovers why coral reefs are in danger from threats that include climate change, ocean acidification, pollution and physical damage. Ed also visits a coral restoration project with a youth group called 'Youth Dive with Purpose' that is helping to restore damaged coral reefs.
